The research department of South Korean Development Bank (KDB) has stated that North Korea is mining cryptocurrency.
In the report of department it is said that North Korea made attempts of a mining of cryptocurrency in small scales in the summer of this year, however, most likely, they haven't brought any results. Nevertheless experts from KDB are sure that North Korea is still engaged in studying of characteristics of cryptocurrencies, their anonymities and also difficulties during the tracking and cashing in of means.
Also it became known that the North Korean technological company Chosun Expo develops a trading platform for exchange of Bitcoin. The journalists who have published this information in media didn't begin to disclose details.
According to KDB, alleged development of the cryptocurrency industry in Northern Korea will be carried out very slowly because there is no blockchain infrastructure, high-performance computers, a high-speed Internet channel and even stable supply of electricity. The South Korean online edition Speconomy considers that the relevant situation in Northern Korea allowing to connect some levels of the Internet will even more slow down development of the cryptocurrency industry.
For the first time intention of the government of North Korea to create the industry of digital currencies within the country became known in April of this year. Then the travel agency Koryo Tours organizing trips to North Korea has reported about creation and start of Koryo Coin ― own cryptocurrency on the basis of a blockchain intended only for the tourist industry of the Korean People's Democratic Republic. The company was also going to carry out by ICO for the cryptocurrency.
However KDB considers that the ordinary resident of North Korea "practically knows nothing about cryptocurrencies". According to the refugees from North Korea giving an interview to South Korean editions recently "In the north of the country didn't hear about this phenomenon at all".
