Japanese Corporation Sony wants to patent two developments intended for hosting and supporting the blockchain.
In the recent past, Sony has already filed patents, which were devoted to the application of technology in suchareas as security and management of educational data. New patent applications "Electronic components and methods to support a distributed registry" "Device and system" suggests that Sony is working on first concepts of hardware blockchain solutions. In addition, these patents are clearly useful for the company to use these devices in their new products.
The first application contains a description of the hardware nodes and means for securing the work block, which means "the mining process". The document presents the situation in which the nodes are used to create a network reminiscent of the cryptocurrency network with open access.
The application States that the distributed registry can be blocchain, which will be the principles of the blockchain the Bitcoin. The distributed registry can use the mechanisms of mining and Proof-of-Work, and give rewards like Bitcoin in cryptocurrency and/or rewards for mining. The distributed registry can also use the mechanisms of consensus that all the electronic modules was the consensus of the distributed registry.
All this in no way confirms the intention by Sony to release its own cryptocurrency. However, the company clearly sees the technology described in the application, as the possibility of entering the cryptocurrency market.
A second application entitled "Device and system" on threats to the security of the network formed from multiple nodes. The document says that the number of devices that have access to the remote registry and promoting its work, may be small. For this reason, the system could be in danger. The solution to this problem, Sony sees in increasing the number of nodes by using virtual nodes. Described in the application device will be able to provide hosting for hundreds and thousands of virtual nodes.
Patent applications by Sony mainly focused on the hardware and operating methods ensure the operation of the distributed registry than on its type. The company claims that the networks can be public or private. They can also use proprietary software or technology of distributed databases like Hadoop.
