Hacked exchange Maplechange suspected of fraud

Canadian exchange Maplechange suspected of fraud

Maplechange, the little cryptocurrency exchange from Canada, stopped their operations after all cash platform was allegedly stolen. Despite promises of an investigation into the matter, many people have accused the exchange of attempting to stage an exit scam.

About hacking allegedly occurred a day after technical prevention, became known after post in the Maplechange official Twitter. According to representatives of the exchange, the fraudsters managed to withdraw all the funds due to a bug in the site code. They also reported that conduct a thorough investigation of the incident, however they cannot reimburse clients for their losses.

Some sources claim that Maplechange deleted the tweet an hour after publication. The same thing happened with the accounts of the exchange in Telegram and Discord. Platform explained their actions by the fact that she can no longer continue its operations due to the loss of all funds and impossibility reimbursement of losses.

However, approximately five hours after the alleged hacking Maplechange published another tweet in order to stop the rapidly spreading rumors that the exchange had stolen assets and disappeared.

Maplechange said:

"We have not disappeared. We just turned off our accounts for a while so that nothing would stop us from thinking about solving the problem."

An hour after this posting, exchange has opened a new channel in Discord to compensate for lost funds. It was noted that the stolen bitcoins and lightcoins will not be returned.

Before hacking on Maplechange has been saw a significant growth in trading volume. After the daily volume in the range of from two to three thousand dollars in the month of October, the volume has increased from 10 thousand to 65 thousand dollars in the days leading up to the hack. However, during the technical prevention the volume declined sharply to 5 thousand dollars. At the time of the purported hack, CCX/BTC and LMO/LTC were the two most traded pairings on Maplechange.

Maplechange made a promise to give the developers all the coins in its possession. At the time of this writing, it had said that it had already returned funds to Carbon Credit Coin (CCX) and Lumeneo (LMO).

Maplechange made the first start of the trading pair LTC/CCX 11 October, commenting on this event in the following way:

"Today we are witnessing a fantastic trading volume due to LMO. You must definitely take advantage of this trading pair for profit".
