The Boeing company announced its intention to use blockchain technology for tracking of unmanned aerial vehicles to be used for the transport of goods in urban environments.
Boeing has partnered with the company SparkCognition, an artificial intelligence company. Together they want to create a decentralized platform, which can be used to track drones, create optimal routes and to improve the security of equipment and cargo.
In addition, the blockchain technology will be used to monitor air vehicles of the new generation. In particular, Boeing plans to use them for shipping packages and flights in the city, thus offering its clients the service of "air taxis" like UBER.
Boeing also plans to use a standardized software interface designed to deliver parcels, production controls and other commercial applications. The representatives of the corporation yet not disclosed the details relating to the type of blockchain-platform on which it is planned to develop this system.
According to the chief technical Director of the Boeing Greg Hislop's, today's technological advances and social trends have merged and are in need of bold decisions regarding the scope of air transport. Therefore, we have created the Boeing NeXt ― a new subsidiary, which is engaged in research and development activities in the field of autonomous flights and journeys of the next generation.
On the development of the block-platform, Boeing spent 32 million dollars. The head of the company SparkCognition Amir Hussein said that cooperation with Boeing and the available opportunities for air transportation in an urban environment will lead to the creation of a new large market, whose total turnover, according to some analysts, may be about three trillion dollars.
